Air raid sirens sounded in Chandigarh (ANI )
Chandigarh city was placed on high alert on Friday morning when air raid sirens sounded to warn of a possible air attack. The sirens were sounded across the city, and residents were asked to stay indoors and away from balconies. The advisory was given by the Chandigarh deputy commissioner, who urged citizens to respond immediately to the sirens by extinguishing all lights and staying indoors.
The warning comes hours after an unexpected blackout was enforced over Chandigarh last night. The blackout was one of the precautionary measures enforced by the administration to prepare for potential emergencies. The air raid warning systems were doubled from 20 to 50, and satellite phones were used in case of communication failure. The Civil Defence Control Centre was strengthened, and staff were provided with uniforms.

The deputy commissioner directed the citizens to stay indoors and keep away from balconies and windows during the alert. The announcement read, "Do not venture outside or onto the roofs." Most of the residents heeded the order, but some solar lights and streetlights remained on for quite a while. Cars still moved with headlights on, in defiance of the blackout warning.
The neighboring cities of Mohali and Panchkula were also put on high alert. In Mohali, a two-hour blackout was ordered at 9:30 pm, and inhabitants were instructed to switch off all external and internal lighting, restrain from movement on the streets, and assist security personnel. In Panchkula, the blackout started without proper notification, resulting in delays in adherence.
The government heightened civil defense measures, preparing for potential emergencies. The move was taken in view of some intelligence inputs indicating a Pakistani threat. The officials assured that the measures were strictly precautionary and meant for public safety.
The recent incidents underscore the continued tensions between India and Pakistan, and the necessity for citizens to be alert and ready for any eventuality. The efforts of the administration in providing public safety are appreciable, and citizens must cooperate and obey instructions during such alerts.
